3. What age does my child have to be to attend Scruggs Academy?Scruggs Academy enrolls all students from 2.5 years of age to 5th grade. (To be eligible for enrollment in our K2.5 and K3 classes your scholar must be potty trained)

4. Where is Scruggs Academy located?Scruggs Academy is located in the heart of North Huntsville. We are conveniently located with easy access to neighboring cities like Madison, Meridianville, and New Market. We are also a short drive from Redstone Arsenal, Research Park, and Downtown Huntsville. Our address is 3509 Blue Spring Road.

5. What academic curriculum is available at Scruggs Academy?ABEKA as our primary curriculum source in the K2 to K4 classrooms. The ABEKA curriculum provides our scholars with a solid foundation of the Bible and with a continuum of academic readiness skills. We utilize the Purposeful Design curriculum along with ABEKA in our teaching of Phonics, Reading, and Numeracy. Furthermore, our teaching methodologies and age-appropriate experiences such as the use of the IXL program in Pre-K4, various early learning apps in Pre-K3 & K4, and weekly homework practice to solidify classroom learning and involve parents at all ages (Pre-K2 – Pre-K4) play an important part of the learning process. The Academy curricula has been designed using God’s Word, national standards, and best practice in educational research. Specifically, subject matter is rooted in truth – The Holy Bible. Units are planned using Biblical Integration and the Understanding by Design process to ensure scholars reach deep understanding of subject matter, meet high expectations, and have rigorous goals. Additionally, daily lessons aim to connect all learning to the role God plays in their lives. We hold for ourselves and build in our scholars a Biblical worldview. The study of God’s Word and His principles are the foundation for all that is taught in the academic curriculum. Academy classes utilize the following academic and extra-curricular resources to teach from God’s perspective and to provide knowledge and skills mastery: Purposeful Design by the Association of Christian Schools International Reading - Wonders by McGrawHill Math – SAVVAS, Envision and Saxon Math by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Science – SAVVAS Social Studies – SAVAS Time for Kids Magazine IXL Learning A-Z’s RAZ-PLUS Code.org In addition to the academic curriculum our scholars get to participate in the following arts/extra-curricular courses and or activities: Physical Education Foreign Language- Spanish Music – Maitland Music Arts Stem Dance – Rocket City Dance

6. Does Scruggs Academy have a fine arts program?Scruggs Academy fine arts/extra curriculum consists of Arts, Stem, Music, Foreign Language and Physical Education. In addition to adding Arts and Stem this year, Maitland Conservatory offers Violin, Piano, and Music classes. The school offers dance through Rocket City Dance during school or after school hours on the premises.

7. Is there an age cut-off for students entering Kindergarten?Students must turn five by September 1 to start our kindergarten program.

8. What is Scruggs Academy average class size?The average class size at Scruggs academy is 8 - 1 for the Little Academy and 12-1 for the Upper Academy.

9. Does Scruggs Academy offer scholarships?Yes. Our families can apply for Scruggs Academy scholarship, a need-based financial assistance scholarship offered through the school. We also accept scholarships from the Child Care Management Agency (CMA) and Scholarship for Kids, need-based SGO (scholarship granting organization) through the state of Alabama.

10. Are students required to wear uniforms?Yes. All Academy (Kindergarten to 5th grade) scholars are required to wear uniforms daily. The Child Development Center (2.5 - K-4) scholars are required to wear the school T-Shirts with either the school logo or the school’s eagle mascot in the school’s colors. They are also required to wear khaki or navy-blue bottoms. Chapel attire is required on Wednesdays and school spirit wear may be worn on Friday’s.
